We finally started getting our Christmas stuff set up. I am feeling a bit guilty about making the kids wait so long to get it started. They were so excited to finally go and get a tree and then to know that for FHE we were decorating it. Finally, their parents were getting it together and had a time scheduled to set up Christmas!
And it really was so much fun! We watched the Luke II video put out by the church and then we watched it again with the sound muted and playing Amy Grant's "Breath of Heaven" song. It fits so perfectly! I first heard about putting the video and song together from a yahoo group I was on. The urban myth is that it was orginally planned that the two go together and then there were copyright issues or whatnot so it didn't end up happening.
After watching the video we started the decoration process. Which involved going over how old everyone was when they got each individual ornament. It is really cool to look back, but at the same time it sure does take along time, when someone has 30+ years to go thru. Lucky for me, I only have half the ornaments, since after 5 or 6 kids my parents stopped doing the yearly ornament thing because the tree was getting way to crowded. :) Anyways, the kids really liked to see the ornaments we got when we were their age. It made them feel cool that mom and dad were once their age. We also put up some of the other Christmas decorations, like stockings, nativities, snowmen, etc. After all this excitement we cooked some sugar cookies that turned out rather badly. They tasted okay but they didn't really hold the shape the cookie cutter gave them before they were cooked. So instead of a Christmas tree we had a rocket, instead of a reindeer we had a reindeer that crashed, and instead of a Christmas present we had a circular something. It was lots of fun and the kids really loved it. Of course they didn't go to bed on time that night, but hey that's what we get for putting it off for so long!
